to introduce to you megan riley megan has a number of years of experience in information technology is a project manager I've worked with her on a number of projects and Megan brings her expertise her great skills with people as a project manager and scheduler

and reschedule ER and I've seen a dry out of this talk and it's really really great it's informative she's hilarious you're going to love her please welcome Megan introduction teasers so how many of you bite you the city a couple of people

and of those of you that bike in the city how many of you drive in the city so when I'm Viking the drivers are terrible they are out to get me they have a multi-ton tank they are coming right for me it is personal they are out of control for people they

hate environment it is just they should not be on the road when I Drive it the bikers are idiots I mean there are all the things they are just I need them and they're environmentally sensitive ways it's just somebody's going to get hurt and I have

places to go and these people are in farming how many of you have ever been frustrated been using an application and how many of you have ever made a design or development decision thinking you know what the user will figure this out I don't see how anyone

can ever be confused and it's easier for me to code it this way they'll get over it me too so what's missing here is everything and empathy is understanding where someone else is coming from it's putting yourself in their shoes when you're

the biker it's you know picturing what the driver might be going for dinner late for work they just you know drop their kids off at school it's how kids having a meltdown boss is gonna be angry so you know they really want to just make that right turn

and if you're coming up in their way yes you can do it but they get angry maybe it's not personal and when we're talking about user experience design and we're talking about empathy this is considering what the user is thinking and how they're

using your product and it's also about considering what the people on your team are thinking so when you're a developer and you're getting frustrated with our designer who is giving you these crazy designs and you know this is just a me difficult

to do it's understanding why that's happening in vice versa you know the developer that just won't help you out the guy that just keeps saying no reasons so welcome to the world of user experience design if you're here chances are you are new

to user experience designers stranger in a strange land so I'm going to be your tour guide today I'm going to take you through the trip itinerary here we're going to go to a overview of what user experience design is now talk a little bit about

the value especially to you as a developer and then I'm going to tell you about some ways that you can get started making an aux frame of mind so what is user experience design let's look at a definition so user experience is the experience the user

has when interfacing with the product application or website and the first time that I Fred heard that definition i said it's really nice what is it I the only other industry that I know of that refers to their clients as users would be the narcotics industry

and what is this who's deciding on this experiences I had a lot of questions so let's unpack this a little bit you know when something isn't working for you you know when you go onto the site you're trying to pay a bill maybe you're signing

up our continuing at class you know maybe you're just trying to figure out your health insurance benefits and if it is not working you know let's look at it this way how many of you when you have a great experience in the website you go on everything

works exactly the way it's supposed to you just stand up from your computer saying gee that was swell I could fill out that form all day I am just going to sit down here and fill out my name I'm going to put in my credit card information oh it doesn't

get any better than this probably not too many of you so you know when you when you're using something that doesn't work you know you're frustrated might be some colored the language stuffs getting broken i don't know this these are just how

i deal with these things but it's not it's important because you have a bowl that you need to fulfill and you have your own constraints that you need to deal with and what you don't need is a site that is blocking you from doing what you need to

do so let's look at our definition again these user experience is the experience that you have good or bad point interfacing with a product application or website that's better that's better definition but I still have some questions so for example

how many of you look splits picture scenario I'm walking down the street I've seen my friend like hey it's Joe still in town oh yeah I interface with him last night azhar you don't sit down to a computer and interface with the website no money

thing all honey dinner's ready oh I'll be right down I'm just interfacing with our computer what does that mean that caused some concern for me at least so when you're sitting down to use a product or website you're having a conversation

you're not interfacing you have a question you can answer or maybe you're getting information you want to say it come back but that's a conversation just like you and I would have you don't interface your talk so the user experience is the

experience good or bad that you have when you are trying to do something with a product so i think is a little bit clearer of a definition we could probably get better but this is what user experience is all about it is about iterative it is about taking something

and making it accessible to your users making it easier to use if we can just get to this and this can get better you can always get better but if and just get to this it's much easier for users to consume and understand and that seems time that saves

frustration so when we're talking about user experience design we're talking about thinking in a design frame of mind that seeks to create an experience that is delightful usable and helps the user to achieve their goals there's a couple of different

things going on here then we're going to talk about throughout the course of this talk what's your experience and we're all individuals the way that I experienced Jimi Hendrix is going to be weighed of moving the way you experience it and Jimi

Hendrix isn't for everybody it's not furniture Nixon you know it's for the people at Woodstock but the thing is is that Jimmy hunters isn't he's not you know he didn't create this album for every way he doesn't want to impress everybody

wants to focus on his users the people who are his fan base he's identified who they are he knows what they want he knows what they want to hear and that's what you're doing when you're designing for your users you're finding out who your

fan bases and you're designing for them so let's talk a little bit about we might find in the user experience design project probably going to talk to you're going to have a designer and the designer is designing putting together and wireframes

picking out colors there you know just they're coming up with the vision they're coming up with the ideas my own front-end developer who's writing a javascript HTML CSS right of content strategist someone who's thinking of what is the information

that my users have seen is it is it clear is it appropriate is it usable so your product manager use a researcher someone who is gathering that information about your users the designers and developers are using to base their design and development decisions
